Movies: Waste of time?
(Movies: Web series Included)
My cousin sister who is 17, watched more than 100+ movies since pandemic. from south Indian movies to Hollywood she’s watched almost every legendary movie that ruled the box offices.
At first I was like this “Wow, so much time wasted” every normal person would say so.
But, I decided to give a thought to this idea of watching movies as your go to do thing in free time over surfing over social media.
Movies irrespective of genre need to have a message in it, that’s what make a movie or TV show successful. Sometimes the message serves as reminder not to take your life too seriously, sometimes it asks you to. sometimes you end up being inspired and sometimes it makes you take a necessary pause. some add to your knowledge while others gives you the punchlines you can crack at parties :)
But while doing so it tells you a wonderful entertaining story that make you embrace the message conveyed.
That is the reason why I read many blogs about space and cosmos after watching “Interstellar”, watched shit loads of videos on finance after watching “The Big Short” and “Too Big To Fail”, watching “Parasite” gave me the chilling dose of reality of economic Inequality,
“Tanhaji”, “Manikarnika” and “Sardar Udham Singh” reminded me of sacrifices and legacy that needs to be preserved for eternity, “Shawshank Redemption”, “Breaking Bad” and “Joker” introduced me to the emotional as well as dark sides of the human psychology, marvel and DC taught the world that fiction is for adults too and everyone has a child inside.
“Peaky Blinders” made millions of boys try carry that tough guy attitude Tommy carried (It made many of them smoke to :(, Movies like “DDLJ”, “Titanic” etc. defined the definition of love time to time and lastly “ZNMD”, “Hangover”, “Dil chahta hai”, “HIMYM” etc. highlighted the need of F.R.I.N.D.S in our life while giving us the best times in our lives watching them.
The movies and emotions may differ for person to person but I assume watching a movie and getting nothing out of it is rare.
Movies are like books - Choose the right one and it will change your life.
Of course no one would want to prioritize movies over work or personal tasks but feeling guilty of watching too many of them over your free time is nonsense, it is actually a time well spent, I believe.
What do you think?
